A Wellington-based individual was apprehended in Auckland as part of an international crackdown on a cryptocurrency fraud scheme allegedly defrauding victims of $265 million. The operation, spearheaded by the FBI, involved coordinated raids across Auckland, Wellington, and California, resulting in 13 arrests.

Authorities revealed the stolen funds were acquired through manipulative tactics between March and August 2024, then laundered via multiple crypto platforms. New Zealand’s Financial Crime Group executed the arrest, highlighting the global reach of such illicit networks.
